The 4
Corners Online Project
proposes an alternative,
innovative form of distance learning that will augment our
customer’s GED and Adult Basic Education skills, provide easier
access to services, bridge the “need” gap, and better prepare
our customers for employment.
Coloradoans
have become increasingly aware of the need to find innovative ways to
reach the hardest-to-serve clients, those living in the rural areas
and
those with disabilities who need to improve their educational skills
to remain functional in their communities.
Because almost half of
Colorado’s population resides in the rural areas of the state,
Colorado residents face unique barriers. Lack of public
transportation, inclement weather, long distances to and between
agencies, poverty and navigating impossible terrain are just a
fraction of the difficulties faced by those who need services - but
are very real reasons why access may be a challenge. In
addition, a large number of people simply have disabilites that
restrict their mobility.
